Week of June 6-10

Monday

Lots of helping mom today! Jem cleaned and organized his room on his own, and helped with laundry and other chores. I read a few books out loud to them while the laundry was being folded. Two stories from the 'Children's Book of Virtues', 'The Cat in the Hat' and 'The Honey Hunt'. There was a lot of creative play in the new sandbox for the rest of the day.

Tuesday

Jem used his flash cards to make up addition and subtraction problems and then told me his answers, 100% correct. He crafted a bull with play dough very well and told me what he wanted to write about it. He copied his short story into his notebook. He drew a picture of the Ark and also made one out of playdough. They have been watching the cows and bull in our pasture a lot and so I have been counting that as our nature study.  I read aloud to Jem from the Wind in the Willows, and in the evening the children enjoyed a few books read by daddy before bed.

Wednesday

Jem did a math worksheet, and we talked about odd and even numbers.
Two more chapters from The Wind in the Willows were enjoyed by us all. Jem pretended to dig up a bone in the sand box, (it was a long root from a tree) we talked a bit about archaeology together. After making a trench we poured water into it and Jem learnt that water always flows down to the lowest spot. And then they proceeded to make a mud bath for themselves! In the evening we watched a YouTube video about archaeology called; Archaeology Adventures in the Holyland for kids with Gary Byers

Thursday

Jem did a 'tracing the alphabet' worksheet. We walked to the park and explored the forest trail there. Finished 'The Wind in the Willows' during laundry time. They helped clean and vacuum the house so they could have a friend over in the evening!

Friday

Worked on a shapes worksheet. Reviewed the Alphabet, and counting to 60 together. Made play dough cookies. I started a simple Buddy System, with Jem being buddies with Vienna, I am hoping this will help him work on his character, self-control and caring for others. So far so good, of course it's a novelty right now, so he is excited about it. I will be doing a bunch of reading aloud to the kids later this afternoon from our stack of library books.

Weekend Plans

Saturday we hope to go to the dump together and also pick up some sandbox sand, family day with Daddy, and I hope to let Jem help make a cake for Daddy as it is his birthday tomorrow.
